Show Synopsis

Elektra is an original, modern adaptation of the Ancient Greek story of the Oresteia, remade from the original plays by Aeschylus, Sophocles, and Euripides. “You gave birth to your own death.”

Elektra cannot stop grieving. Her mom killed her dad because her dad sacrificed her sister to the Gods. Everybody else has moved on but she just can’t (won’t?) let it go. Every night she dreams of revenge and every day she howls at anyone who will listen. A trail of blood. A curse on her family. Her brother Orestes wants nothing to do with it. He’s off in exile just trying to live his life.

All families are catastrophes. This one’s a nuclear bomb.

Even though it’s 2500 years old, this story is all about us. Here’s the crumbling of our collective sense of justice and truth. Here’s an awful suspicion that the sacrifices of our sisters (and brothers and children and parents) haven’t meant shit. Here is raw power and a terrifying longing to be loved.

What atrocities are we ready to commit to maintain our innocence? What kind of justice do we want? Would we even recognize it if we saw it?

This piece will be created by the ensemble, working from a pre-prepared devising plan and draft script. We want to wrestle with this ancient story together, finding its soul within ourselves and ours within it.

We’re looking for confident, generous actors who are eager to jump into challenging material in a highly collaborative environment.
