Show Synopsis

When the draft selects rock star Conrad Birdie, his fans are devastated, but none more than struggling songwriter Albert Peterson, whose song Birdie was just about to record. Albert's longtime girlfriend, Rosie, pushes Albert to write a new tune that Birdie will perform on television to a fan selected in a contest. The scheme works, with young Ohio teenager Kim McAfee declared the winner, but no one has counted on the jealous wrath of her boyfriend.

Character Breakdown

Albert Peterson -good comic timing, character singer

Rosie Alvarez -excellent singer & dancer, Albert’s fiancée

Mae Peterson -character actress, non-singing, must be good “Jewish” mother

Conrad Birdie -rock & roll singer, good mover, “Elvis type”

Kim MacAfee -very pretty, quite self-possessed, the girl who gets kissed by Conrad, dances.

Harry MacAfee -character singer & actor, Kim’s father.

Mrs. MacAfee -sings, character actress, Kim’s mother

Ursula Merkle -hyper, enthusiastic young lady, mad about Conrad Birdie

Hugo F. Peabody -Kim’s boyfriend, jealous over Conrad


Plus a large singing and dancing ensemble including roles that will be cast out of the ensemble, such as “Baby Talk to Me Quartet”, Maude the Bartender (part of the quartet), Mayor, Mayor’s wife, Mrs. Merkle, Harvey Johnson, Debra Sue, etc.

What To Prepare

Please prepare 32 bars (measures), or a short selection of a song in the style of the show. You may sing a song from the show if you’d prefer. Please also prepare a 30-60 sec monologue.

An accompanist will not be provided so please bring a device with a backing track to sing along to. You may sing acapella, but it is not preferred.

If you cannot make it to auditions in person don’t fret!! You may send in a video audition to with the above requirements by Thursday, August 12th at 11:59pm.
